Carl Anderson, known for his abstracted ‘Ribbon Series’ and photo-realist portraits, was allowed into Guyana’s Burroughs School of Art when only fourteen. Still a teenager, he then left for Venezuela—one of the rare Guyana artists who turned to Latin America for professional development rather than Europe or the USA. For thirteen years he refined techniques and concepts influenced by masters such as Rafael Soto. Anderson won 1st prize at the 4th International Art Biennial of Malta, and the Diploma di merito at the International Grolla d’ Oro, Italy. Currently resident in Guyana, his paintings are collected worldwide, including Guyana’s National Art Gallery.
