Peter Sheppard unveils his latest exhibition of miniature paintings this Saturday the 11th of February 2012  from 10am-2pm at Y Art & Framing Gallery located at the corner of Warren and Taylor Street in Woodbrook. Sheppard has held a number of solo art exhibitions in Trinidad and Tobago spanning the past 17 years at both the 101 Art Gallery and the Y Art Gallery. Currently the 1st Vice President of the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago and a Travel Consultant, Sheppard devotes whatever time he could to developing his painting skill.  RSVP here to attend ‘Blue’.

At his last exhibition in 2011 at the Y Gallery, Peter explored impressionism and technique but has not given up on his passion for miniature painting. In November 2012, his  main collection will be shown at the 101 Art Gallery but only the miniatures will be shown now at the Y Gallery Exhibition.

Artist’s Statement

“I first conceptualized this exhibition as an installation. An entire collection all in hues of blue presented in the straight line around the pristine white space of the Y Gallery, like jewels on the wall. The “bigness” of the gallery and spacing of the 2 dozen works will emphasize the beauty and scale of the paintings.  Returning to my niche of miniature painting, I’ve kept blue in a scale of 2″x2″ but no more than 3″x3″ in acrylic on either vellum or canvas, with detailed landscape compositions.

The only reference to the current carnival season is the use of blue, representative of the jab jab. As a member of The Hilliard Society of Miniature Painters in the United Kingdom, I have maintained my passion for painting on a small scale keeping  within the realm of what defines Miniatures from Small Paintings. In May 2012 I will be participating in the Hilliard Society’s 30th Annual Miniature  Exhibition in Wells, Somerset, England in May 2012.

When thinking about the palette for the exhibition, I found this  meaning of the colour “Blue”. Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

You can use blue to promote products and services related to cleanliness (water purification filters, cleaning liquids, vodka), air and sky (airlines, airports, air conditioners), water and sea (sea voyages, mineral water). As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red, orange, and yellow; blue is linked to consciousness and intellect. Use blue to suggest precision when promoting high-tech products. Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males. Dark blue is associated with depth, expertise, and stability; it is a preferred color for corporate America. Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness. Dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.”
