Saturday, August 18th, 2012 Categories: Diaspora, Exhibitions, UpdatesOn the occasion of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, CAF -Development Bank of Latin America- is pleased to offer, in its Art Gallery, a collection of works that reflects the spirit of plastic arts in that nation. Titled Artistas Plásticos – Trinidad y Tobago en Venezuela, the sample includes the works of Trinidadian artists that reside in Venezuela, Venezuelan artists that have lived in the Caribbean island, and Trinidadian artists linked to Venezuelan artists.

Christopher Cozier's 'After all that Talk'. Linocut 76.3cm x 56cm. 2011
The proximity of these two countries and the shared geographic identity have promoted the exchange of plastic experiences with a great richness of wit, color, and form, placing Caribbean art in the world of the universal plastic arts. In addition, this celebration enhances the incorporation of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as a full member of our Institution, a decision which promotes CAF’s presence in the English speaking Caribbean, a sub-region with its own identity in the American continent. CAF will support the integration of Trinidad and Tobago with Latin America while contributing to its sustainable development and the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Participating artists include:
Emilia Azcárate
Valerie Brathwaite
Christopher Cozier
Alicia De Lima
Che Lovelace
Luis Romero
Anabela San Vicente
With great pride and satisfaction we hope that in addition to celebrating the important 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, this exhibition will also serve as an opportunity to generate cultural ties with all member countries of CAF.
