Laura Facey is an award-winning Jamaican Sculptor who has been called a social interpreter. Born in Jamaica in 1954 FACEY completed her studies at The Jamaica School of Art in Kingston, in 1975. Her significant commissions and installations include: REDEMPTION SONG, THEIR SPIRITS GONE BEFORE THEM, PLUMB LINE, BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST, EARTH TO EARTH and CHRIST ASCENDING. Facey lives in Jamaica with her husband and family. She was trained at The Jamaica School of Art. Her most significant commission is the controversial REDEMPTION SONG, monument to Emancipation, commissioned by the Government of Jamaica in 2002.
In 2006 Facey was awarded the silver Musgrave medal and in 2010, she won the Aaron Matalon award for best in show at the National Biennial, The National Gallery of Jamaica.
